Miles From Home

Sometimes I think there is no truth
There's just these thoughts that you cling to
To help you believe in order and meaning
I guess that notion's nothing new
You've just got to find a thing to do
To define and distract you, refine and relax you
I'm in a dark place, darling, I don't know where to go
I guess I'll keep moving 'til I'm miles and miles form home
Sometimes I think there is no love
Sometimes I think there's nothing but
Sometimes I want to go tell everyone I know just how much
But I get stuck on these avenues
Looking for a thing to do
And a drink in my system, this fog of false wisdom rolls
I'm in a dark place, darling, I don't know where to go
I guess I'll keep moving 'til I'm miles and miles from home

New Mexico
04:59

She whistles a few notes, train station's cold
Scarf's wrapped round her throat
A cigarette hangs and a strand of smoke
From her fingers, the last of the winter
And her thoughts race,
She thinks maybe she'll be finding a new place
Somewhere to get lost, somewhere to make the same mistakes
Somewhere to bury the heartache
When she stays in one place she longs to be moving
Her whole god damn future starts unravelling
And it's frightening but there's no way
Of stopping it happening
So she's taking the old Roman road
Out to Brighton as if it's New Mexico
And she's not frightened
Of wherever she ends up sleeping
Sometimes it feels like we're forever on opposite ends of town
I tried to keep it all together you just tore the whole thing down
You've not found a reason to stick around
She sits on the pier watching the sea turn gold
Thinking that she'd rather grow old here
Than go back to where her worries crowd up
And her youth is sold
To people with designs on her life
And she's in no doubt now that they wouldn't think twice
About leaving
Her stray heart without any meaning
Sometimes it feels like we're forever on opposite ends of town
I tried to keep it all together you just tore the whole thing down
You've not found a reason to stick around
I was a mess tonight
But I will be myself by the morning
I don't mind that you left
But you could've given me some warning
And did you see the lights
And the stars reflected on the water
And did you finally feel alright
Or like a lamb led to the slaughter
Sometimes it feels like we're forever on opposite ends of town
I tried to keep it all together you just tore the whole thing down
You've not found a reason to stick around

San Francisco

Long dusty roads, days are hot, nights are cold
I go days without seeing a soul
I did any job just to keep off the dole
Then I begged and I borrowed and stole
Just to make my way to San Francisco
I know that's how it'll be
Well I left my home in that big city
There was no money left for me
My baby said that wherever I went
By my side she would always be
So we're heading out to San Francisco
I know that's how it'll be
When I get there, I won't even care
Gonna get through a couple of drinks
We'll sit by the sea just my baby and me
And we'll watch all the ships come in
All the folks heading home to San Francisco
I know that's how it'll be

Out by the Orange Groves
02:34
|
|||
We keep running around
Chasing light and sound
Every once in a while
We'll go back underground
We'll find an old town, somewhere that nobody knows
Somewhere to take it slow
Me and my girl
We plan on staying free
And as long as she's around
I know I'll never have to worry
We'll find a new home out by the orange groves
Somewhere the sun sets slow
We'll find an old road, see if takes us west
We'll see just how far we get
I won't bleat like a lamb for the past
And for you my heart beats to fast
